Freedom

freedomFreedom is something that we all desire, for the alternative is slavery or bondage. One of our country’s greatest moments was the addition of the thirteenth amendment in 1865 officially abolishing slavery in the United States. How can anyone not be lifted up when they hear the words made famous by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God Almighty I am free at last”. This is what we can all shout the day we accept Christ as our savior. Our spiritual freedom is not an amendment to the Bible; it is a way of life. Spiritual freedom comes when the Holy Spirit is alive in our lives. Every believer faces a constant tension between new life in the Holy Spirit and his own selfish ambitions (life in the flesh). Everyone who has been set free by Jesus Christ expresses his liberty in three ways: first, love for his God through obedience to His written Word; second, love for his neighbor and third, self -control or love for himself. That is true freedom for which Christ has set us free, and to which we were called. The result of this is a life filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
